Consultation services now offered

I am excited to announce that Sound Matters Music Therapy, LLC is now offering consultation services to other board-certified music therapists who are interested in any or all of the following:

  • Beginning a private practice
  • Finding new resources
  • Networking opportunities
  • Peer supervision
  • Cultivating writing skills

Over the past few months, I have been approached by a number of therapists from a few different states who have a variety of questions about how to get started in one or more of these areas. I enjoy sharing information and the knowledge I have, so please contact me at erin.lunde@soundmattersmusictherapy.com or (612) 466-0227 if you have interest in any of the consultation services I offer. I look forward to meeting with you.

Acceptance

I found this TED Talk to be inspiring and thoughtful, as most of the talks are. In this talk, I resonated with the speaker’s main sentiment that people don’t need to be changed, they need to be loved.

Tuesday podcast share

I have been listening to WNYC’s “Radiolab” podcast for years now, and I always love their episodes that have to do with music. “The Septendecennial Sing-Along” is no exception.

As a short description, I’ll say that the story is of a man who plays clarinet with animals. One species he interacts with musically is the cicada. This is a really fascinating episode, and you can find it by clicking on its title (above) right here.

Song and artist share

I am so fortunate to have worked with a fellow music therapist here in the Twin Cities who is a fantastic singer-songwriter by the name of Lynn O’Brien. I bring her up because I found myself in a session today that simply needed to have within it one of her songs, called “Still.”

Please do yourself a favor and listen to an excerpt of this song here.

There are so many fellow music therapists who perform and record on a regular basis. Another of whom I need to share with you is Angie Kopshy, and I look forward to writing up on some of what she does in the near future! Please let me know if you’d like any other pairs of ears on your original music.

More peer supervision to come

We had an excellent peer supervision group meeting this evening in which I met yet another music therapist here in the Twin Cities area and most of us got to know one another a little more. I love having this opportunity to be face to face with other music therapists, as I don’t have such a chance in my regular work week.

Our next meeting is tentatively scheduled for June 26.

Please feel free to contact me directly or find me on Twitter (@soundmattersmt) or Facebook if you’re a board-certified music therapist in the Twin Cities who would like to attend.

Tuesday song share: “Colors”

I’ve liked this song for a long time, and I’ve used it with groups in a few different ways. Alas, I couldn’t find a video, but this particular YouTube video does list the lyrics.

Two small business resources

I drive a lot. I try to write all of my progress notes between clients and sites, and to do that, I use my iPad. Just in case you out there who are in private practice and who drive do not know about Evernote, I’ll take this moment to say that it’s been really handy for me. I have a number of notebooks where I keep my categorized notes, and they’re all filed and synchronized between my iPad, iPhone, and laptop. That’s it. That’s the most appealing aspect of it– its synchronization.

Though I’ve had my Square account for months, I’m just now finding it useful. I find a satisfaction in going to the bank and depositing checks, but it does take time and scheduling. Square frees all of that up, and deposits on the next day.

I wonder what other apps or methods you private practitioners use for notes, paperwork, and payment.

Tuesday song share

At the last peer supervision group we had here in Minneapolis, I shared the lyrics and chords to this song. So, here is the video:

Ah, cellos

Michael Jackson came up for me today, and it reminded me of this video. I saw it for the first time months ago, and chances are you have, too, but just in case you haven’t:
